My NetBook
Introduction
Soon I will be getting my hands on a Dell Inspiron 10. I cant wait for it to arrive. However, in the mean time, I have noticed there are many "in-depth reviews" about the device, videos of software and hardware options, but none of them cover all of the features or comparisons that I am interested in, like the following:
- GPS experience
- TV Tuner
- Linux OS netbook distros
- Hard drives have people used
- Video gaming experience
So, its now time for me to put this computer to my set of standards and I think thats a good place to start.
Standards
I expect that my netbook will not be my primary computer but will serve my programming needs for exploring more about Ruby on Rails and maintaining various documents. Other things that would be nice while I am conducting my business are music, video, and social networking.
I hope to make a log of my experience with the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 for others to read and help make a decision. If you have any requests about something I should try, please add a comment down below with as much detail as possible and I will try to make it happen.
Pushing the limits
I intend to push the limits of this laptop with the game World of Warcraft because, well, I have an addiction, and everything I own should run the game.
Operating System
I have plans to try the following operating systems:
- Microsoft Windows
- Windows XP (or what ever is installed on it)
- Windows Vista
- Windows 7
- Linux
- Unix
- Mac OS X
- Hackintosh
For all of these OS's to meed my standard, I would like to have access to the following hardware features:
- High Def Video Display
- Good use of battery
- Sleep/Wake
- All USB Ports
- GPS
- TV Tuner
Hardware
The standard hard drive that comes with this laptop is a 2.5in 160GB SATA unit. After doing a quick search, I found a nice 500 GB hard drive on newegg.com. I have also found a video that show how to replace the hard drive.
Software
My highest priority will be able to run decent office software (of any kind, that includes OpenOffice or Emacs, which ever is fastest) and running Ruby on Rails applications.
