root password for hmailserver mysql database

To connect to the hMailServer database with the root account use the following steps:

run the script "hMailServer\Addons\Utilities\DecryptBlowfish.vbs"
when you see the dialog box, enter in the password found in hMailServer.ini
you should see the password displayed

tip: Make sure you use the correct port because by default, hMailServer uses 3307.

Notifications for yum updates for RedHat ES 5

When keeping your server up to date, having an email being sent to you with notification of updates needing to be applied, the yum-updatesd.conf file is the answer. Here is a sample of what I put into the file:

# how often to allow checking on request (in seconds)

updaterefresh = 600

# how to send notifications (valid: dbus, email, syslog)

emit_via = dbus,email

How to install ELPA emacs package manager in Emacs

Today I sat down this morning to install some packages and just learned about the package manager for Emacs called espl. I also installed this behind my proxy server by setting my http_proxy variable. Here are my steps for installing ELPA:

Copy the following text (from the Emacs ELPA install website)

  (let ((buffer (url-retrieve-synchronously
	       "http://tromey.com/elpa/package-install.el")))
  (save-excursion
    (set-buffer buffer)
    (goto-char (point-min))
    (re-search-forward "^$" nil 'move)
    (eval-region (point) (point-max))
    (kill-buffer (current-buffer))))

Start your Emacs program if you have not already
Paste the text into a new buffer

C-y

Move your cursor to the last line in your buffer to evaluate the lisp code

ESC >

Execute the lisp code with

C-x C-e

The ELPA package manager should be installed. To start it use:

M-x package-list-packages
