Your looking at that spiraled phone cord that has all of those loops (or extra twists,.. not sure what to call them) and its just making your phone look really messy, and your thinking "there has got to be a way to get all of these out faster than just letting gravity do the trick". These loops are taking up valuable stretching lengths! Also, they start to grow in numbers each time they appear. Here is one of mine:
So you might be asking "how do I fix these things!?"
First, the legal clause part:
I full admit that there is possibly a better way to do this, and I am not going to buy you a new phone cord if you ruin it. I have not ruined mine.
My solution...
which does involve unhooking only one side, without any "hanging", "gravity-will-fix-it", and its quick to complete
Here is the basic outline:
- read all of the steps before starting your untangle
- refer to pictures for more information
- detach one side of the phone cord (best to start with end closest to the extra twist)
- take the jack and feed it in to all of its loops until you get to the extra twist
- now get firm hold of the jack side in one hand
- get firm hold of the extra loop in other hand
- pull until its flat

Thanx man!!!
holy crap that's amazing. my work productivity just decreased a bit at work, but my phone is awesome now. lol thanks
lol thanks for commenting =D
Yep folks, this one works. None of the other ways from the other sites did. Thanks!
FINALLY!!!!! Your are brilliant!!!
Thanks Shawn!
Ahhhhh, finally. Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this! My single backwards twist had grown to 6-backward loops and every time I looked at it it irked me. It took me two pull-throughs to fix my cord (1 to the bottom of the 6-backwards loops, and then another to the top of the 6-backwards loops), but it only took about 3 minutes from start to finish!
actually, I'm the lying sack of shit, everyone on my floor is paying me 5 bucks a cord to fix their lines. you rock!
you have a nice setup there! im happy for you!
You're a lying sack of shit.
Hurray! It Worked! Woo hoo! Thank you so much!
You got it! I thought there was another way, similar to an old bar trick where you hold 2 ends of a rope a certail way and when you pull it apart, there is a knot; without ever letting go of the rope. Anyway, your method definately works. I spent a good amount of time trying to get it to work different other ways. Kind of like a Chinese puzzle. The other web sites didn't help and the Utube one with the kid was a waste of time it's amusing because he doesn't have a clue what he's doing. Thanks
Your welcome lou Juliana,
And thanks for your comment! I agree it is like a Chinese puzzle. Also happy to know that my solution helped you out =)
Worked like a charm! You da man.
Jay,
Thank you for your response!

I think this will work for simple twists but a cord that has been mangled for years needs to be wrapped around a 3/8" wood dowel of wood or steel (think drill bit). Starting at one end wrap the cord around the dowel keeping the inside flat surface of the cord flat around the the dowel and the other end loose to be able to flip and flap. The kinks are caused by the four wires inside the outside covering twisting inside and this will give the inside wires a chance to re align. The four very thin wires inside the outside covering themselves are covered in plastic which shifts and needs to be re-aligned also. The cord can be "massaged" over the crooked parts to allow the wires to move inside and return to a more normal state. It's an act of love.
John,
That is an excellent method for trying to repair a mangled cord! It sounds like you have done this before. I will be sure to try this when I encounter a cord that needs it. Thanks for the great information about the wires being re aligned too
cheers!
